MA:Stillness in Space
For: ArtCenter College of Design
Role: Content research, planning, design, typographic strategies, and print production
The exhibit explores experiential design in a spatial setting, understanding the artists’ process in their creative career.
Experience Design is “to persuade, stimulate, inform, envision, entertain, and forecast events, influencing meaning and modifying human behavior. The psychological power of immersion, contemporary artists have created immersive spaces that enable the audience to escape to other realms and experience genuine emotional responses. The power of artistic illusion, as well as the human desire to create realities within realities, enables us to suspend our belief in our physically situated world and accept artificial constructs.

Ma (間) is a Japanese word which can be roughly translated as “gap”, “space”, “pause” or “the space between two structural parts.” MA is not something that is created by compositional elements; it takes place in the imagination of the human who experiences these elements. It is the natural distance between two or more objects existing in a continuity or the space delineated by posts, screens, or the natural pause or interval between two or more phenomena.
